This weekend has been an eventful weekend at Blackfriars. On Friday, there was the Priory Dinner for our Hall and Studium students, and on Sunday evening the community invited all the friends of our community who come to Mass at Blackfriars for a festive Buffet in our refectory. On the 14th-16th December Blackfriars, Oxford, hosted the Provincial Assembly of the English Dominican friars. This gathering is an opportunity for as many friars as possible from all round the Province to get together and discuss the Province’s life and mission, and happens every four years in preparation for the Provincial Chapter, the meeting of superiors and elected delegates of the brethren which makes decisions about such things, and which will happen in April next year. Read more

Some of my friends tell me that I am passionate about Facebook. That would be because I sometimes post more than 10 videos, comments and events every day. In addition to that I do update my photos and profile status often. Does not that sound as some kind of obsession? My interest in Facebook is a result of my great aspiration to become a reporter. One of the main activities of a reporter is to provide information on current news and to analyse situations. That is the same thing I do when I update my profile or post comments on Facebook. The more regularly I do it, the more I feel doing something similar to my aspirations. But why should being a reporter become a passion? Read more

Remembering ... fr Dominic Jude Sire (1906-1971)

Francis Sire was born in London in 1906, and educated at Stonyhurst by the Jesuits: while his brother went on to join the Jesuits, Francis entered the Dominican Order at Woodchester in 1926, being given the religious name of Dominic Jude. He was professed the following year, and ordained priest at Oxford in 1932. Read more
